1914 - 1938

1917-

April 6 - United States declares war against Germany.

June 26 - First American regiments numbering 14 500 men landed at St Nazaire, France.

October 21 - Battalions of the American First Division participated in with the French forces in Lorraine

December 7 - United States declares war against Austria-Hungary

1918 -

July 1 - The first million Americans had arrived with another million arriving by Armistice Day.

July 4 - Battle of Le Hamel. Australian and American troops fought alongside one another.

1919 -

January 18 - Peace Conference held its first plenary session

1921 -

Washington Conference - discussing naval issues, including Pacific affairs. Canada and Australia suspicious of Japan and hoping for closer relations with the United States did not want Britain to renew the Anglo-Japanese alliance of 1902.
